On October 1, the United States started a new way of handling foreign aid. This is the help the U.S. sends to other countries to keep people healthy.
Officials recently signed health agreements with 35 different countries. These deals are meant to change how the U.S. supports global health. Many experts are now looking at these plans to see if they will actually work.
Some groups are worried. For example, the European AIDS Treatment Group is asking if these new deals will hurt programs that help people with HIV. They are concerned that the focus might shift away from important medical services that people rely on.
Right now, there is still a lot we do not know. People who study global health are trying to figure out exactly how these 35 new deals will change things on the ground. They want to know if doctors and patients will have the supplies and support they need.
While the government says this is a new era for health aid, critics are waiting to see the details. We will keep watching these programs to see how they change things for people in these countries.
