Tensions are high in the South China Sea after a serious collision between China and the Philippines. A Chinese Coast Guard ship intentionally hit a Philippine fisheries vessel near Sabina Shoal.
Video of the incident shows the Chinese ship moving into the smaller Philippine boat. This kind of event is dangerous and makes an already tense situation even worse.
The United States and Canada have both spoken out. They are calling the move a 'deliberate ramming,' which means they believe China hit the ship on purpose.
China is telling a different story. They are blaming the Philippines for the crash, saying the Philippine ship acted wrongly. Meanwhile, China’s state-run media, the Global Times, has attacked the Philippine defense secretary, Gilberto Teodoro, claiming he has bad motives in these ongoing arguments over the sea.
This area is a frequent spot for trouble. Both countries claim the water and the land nearby as their own. As both sides keep pushing, experts worry that these kinds of collisions could lead to an even bigger accident or a larger fight.
