Colombia Sends Troops to Santa Marta After Criminal Gang Shuts Down City

The city of Santa Marta, Colombia, is on edge. A criminal group recently forced the city to shut down, causing businesses to close and people to stay inside out of fear.
In response, the President of Colombia has sent military troops to the city. The goal is to take control back from the criminal organization, known as the ACSN, and make the streets safe again.
Local reports say the criminal group used threats to stop normal life in the city. Because of this violence, the United States Embassy has issued a security alert for travelers. They are telling people to be careful and aware of their surroundings if they are in the area.
The situation remains serious. While the military is now on the ground to keep order, the government is working to break the hold this group has on the local community. For now, officials are asking residents to stay alert while the police and army work to end the disruption.
