European countries are changing how they handle people who come to their borders looking for a new home. Several nations are now working on plans to send rejected asylum-seekers to countries outside of Europe.
These places are being called "return hubs." Think of them like holding areas where people wait while their paperwork is sorted out before they are sent back to their home countries.
This move comes as support for far-right political parties grows across Europe. These parties often want stricter rules on who is allowed into the country. Leaders are under pressure to show they have a plan to control the number of people arriving without permission.
Some government officials, like those in Greece, are pushing to make these transfers happen as fast as possible. They want to clear out crowded migrant centers and send rejected applicants away quickly.
There is even talk that countries like Rwanda might be open to hosting these migrants, similar to plans that have been discussed in other parts of the world.
However, not everyone agrees with this approach. Groups that look after people's health and safety are worried. They say that while the EU has adopted new rules for returning migrants, these rules must not ignore basic human needs. They are warning that being sent to these hubs could be bad for people's health and well-being.
For now, the debate continues as leaders try to balance border security with the rights of the people arriving at their gates.
