President Emmanuel Macron of France is sounding the alarm. He says Russia is increasing what are called "hybrid" attacks against Europe.
Think of a hybrid attack as a sneaky way to cause trouble without starting a traditional war. This can include cyberattacks on websites, spreading lies online to stir up anger, or trying to mess with a country’s infrastructure—like power grids or transportation systems. Because of this, Macron has ordered extra protections for France’s most important buildings and systems.
At the same time, France is worried about oil. With global supplies shaky, Macron is calling on other top leaders in the G7 (a group of the world's most powerful economies) to release more oil from their emergency stores. The goal is to make sure there is enough oil to go around, which helps keep gas and energy prices from spiking for regular people.
Europe is feeling the squeeze as oil supplies become harder to find and more expensive. By asking for these emergency releases, France hopes to keep the lights on and the economy moving while they deal with these new security threats from Russia.
