The country’s disaster management agency has issued a second-highest 'danger' alert, signaling the threat of pyroclastic flows—fast-moving currents of hot gas and volcanic matter—and significant ash fall that could impact regional air quality and infrastructure.

Witnesses and local reports describe dramatic scenes of lava fountains lighting up the night sky and massive plumes of ash reaching thousands of feet into the atmosphere.
