A terrible humanitarian crisis is happening right now in Oleshky. This is a city in Ukraine currently held by Russian forces. Reports from major news outlets like The Guardian, BBC, and ABC News paint a desperate picture.
People living there are running out of everything. Food and clean water have basically stopped reaching them. Some residents have even been forced to eat garden weeds just to stay alive.
Getting help into the city has become almost impossible. A group representing the local Kherson government tried to send four tonnes of food to the area, but the blockade makes it very hard to get supplies to those who need them most.
Escaping the city has also become a nightmare. For the people trapped inside, leaving is now extremely dangerous. The situation is so bad that many are calling it 'hell on earth.'
There is very little information coming out of the city, and the lack of communication makes it even harder for families to know if their loved ones are safe. For now, the people in Oleshky remain trapped, struggling to find even the most basic food to survive each day.
