Iceland Might Join the European Union Soon

Iceland is thinking about joining the European Union. The European Union, or EU, is a group of countries in Europe that work together on things like money and laws.
For a long time, Iceland has stayed out of the group. But now, things are changing.
There are two main reasons for this. First, living in Iceland has become very expensive. People there are finding it harder to pay for daily life. Many think that joining the EU could help fix these money problems.
Second, the world is feeling less safe. Recent comments from Donald Trump about Arctic safety have made Icelanders nervous. The Arctic is the area at the very top of the world. Because Iceland is located there, they are worried about being left on their own if trouble starts. Joining the EU would give them a stronger group of friends to rely on.
An official in charge of bringing new countries into the EU recently said that Iceland could be a member by the year 2028. That is only a few years away.
Right now, people in Iceland are debating what to do. It is a big choice, and they are taking it seriously. We will have to wait and see if they decide to sign up.
