Russia and China Block UN Group That Watches Iran
A team that checks if Iran is following international rules on weapons and money will be shut down after Russia and China used their veto power.

For a long time, a special group of experts has worked for the United Nations. Their job was to watch Iran to make sure it was following rules about weapons and money. This is what people call 'sanctions.' Basically, sanctions are rules that stop a country from buying or selling certain things, like weapons, so they don't cause trouble.
Yesterday, the United States tried to get the UN to keep this group running. But Russia and China said no. Because they are big players in the UN, they were able to use their 'veto.' A veto is basically a power that lets one country stop a decision even if everyone else agrees.
Because of their veto, the group of experts will have to stop their work soon. They will no longer be there to check if Iran is breaking these rules.
Pakistan also decided not to vote at all. They chose to 'abstain,' which just means they didn't pick a side.
This means that there will be no more independent people watching to see if Iran is following the rules set by the rest of the world. The people who wanted to keep the group going are worried that this will make it easier for rules to be ignored.
