Russia launched a series of drone attacks on Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, today. The strikes hit important bridges in the city.
This happened at the same time Germany’s leader, Chancellor Olaf Scholz, arrived in Kyiv for a surprise visit. He came to show that Germany still supports Ukraine in the ongoing war. Residents heard explosions and air raid sirens shortly after he got to the city.
Russian officials confirmed they targeted the bridges and also hit two ships in the Black Sea. These bridges are vital for moving people and supplies across the city. By hitting them, Russia is trying to make life in Kyiv much harder and disrupt the movement of goods.
This attack is seen as a way for Russia to escalate the conflict while a high-level foreign leader is present. The situation in Kyiv remains tense as officials assess the damage to the infrastructure.
