Starvation in Oleshky: Residents resort to eating weeds as aid is blocked
People trapped in the Russian-occupied Ukrainian city are running out of food, forcing some to survive on grass.

The city of Oleshky in Ukraine is facing a terrible crisis. Russian forces are currently occupying the city, and they have blocked all outside help from reaching the people living there. Because of this, the residents are facing severe starvation.
Reports from the area describe the situation as “hell on earth.” Food has become so scarce that some people are now eating weeds and grass just to stay alive. Many residents are trying to leave the city to escape the hunger and danger, but it is becoming nearly impossible to get out.
The conditions inside the city are grim. Families are hiding in their homes, and some are even reportedly keeping bodies in hospital basements because it is too dangerous to hold funerals or go outside.
In an attempt to help, the Ukrainian military has started using drones to drop food and supplies into the city. While these small drops are a lifeline for those who receive them, the need is far greater than what the drones can deliver.
Oleshky is essentially under siege. The people trapped inside are waiting for an evacuation that feels further away every day as the blockade remains in place.
