Ukraine says it has successfully attacked and disabled more than half of Russia's oil refining capacity. These refineries are the big factories that turn raw oil into gas and diesel for cars and tanks.
Several news outlets are reporting this major hit to the Russian fuel supply. It is a big deal because these factories are essential to keeping Russia's economy and military moving.
At the same time, the war is getting more intense. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine claims that Vladimir Putin has told his military leaders to stop following the rules of war.
Zelenskyy said he was shocked by what he called Russia’s "savage desire" to make the fighting worse. He reminded everyone that it was Russia that started this conflict by attacking first.
For now, both sides continue to trade heavy blows. Ukraine is focusing on hitting the oil industry to hurt Russia’s ability to fund and fuel its war machine, while tensions on the ground remain extremely high.
