Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says there is no chance for a "win-win" peace deal with Russia. He believes that Russian leader Vladimir Putin is still determined to take over all of Ukraine.
Zelenskyy spoke about the situation after four years of war. He said that after all the lives lost and the damage done to the country, finding a middle ground that makes both sides happy is simply not realistic. He made it clear that Ukraine's main goal remains peace, but not the kind of peace that lets Russia take their land.
In recent comments, Zelenskyy also spoke about the heavy cost of the fighting. He suggested that the number of Russian soldiers killed or wounded could reach one million by the end of the year.
Zelenskyy warned that Putin has no plans to stop his attempts to control Ukraine. Because of this, the president believes that Ukraine must keep fighting to defend itself. He says that any idea of a simple compromise does not fit the reality of what Russia is actually doing on the ground.
