A tragic accident happened at a gold mine in Sudan. The mine collapsed, killing at least 82 people. There are still many others missing, so that number could unfortunately go up.
The collapse took place in West Kordofan, a region in Sudan where many people work in informal gold mines. These mines are often very dangerous because they are not built with safety in mind.
Rescuers are currently on the scene trying to find anyone who might still be trapped under the dirt and rocks. Because the area is remote and the mines are unstable, the rescue effort is very difficult.
Local officials are working to gather more information, but details have been changing as the search continues. Different news reports have shared varying numbers of casualties throughout the day, but the current count stands at 82 people confirmed dead.
