Dozens of attacks hit southern Thailand

Southern Thailand was hit by a wave of violence overnight. Attackers targeted over 70 different spots in what officials are calling a coordinated series of arson and bomb attacks.
Most of the attacks involved setting fires to buildings and gas stations. Because so many places were hit at the same time, it suggests a well-planned effort by insurgents—people fighting against the government in that region.
Reports say that at least three people were hurt during the chaos. The explosions and fires were so strong that they were felt by people living in nearby villages across the border in Malaysia.
Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin quickly called a meeting with top security leaders to talk about what happened and how to stop it from happening again.
The southern part of Thailand has dealt with fighting between the government and local groups for years, but this sudden outburst of dozens of attacks at once is a major escalation. Authorities are now working to secure the area and investigate who exactly is behind the destruction.
