Europe is facing a major crisis right now. The continent’s big rivers, which are usually busy highways for ships carrying food, fuel, and other supplies, are drying up.

Satellite pictures show these rivers shrinking to record-low levels. Because there is so little water, big ships cannot sail through them. Some boats are getting stuck, and others have to carry much lighter loads so they don't hit the bottom.

This is a huge problem for businesses. When ships can’t move goods, companies have to move them by truck or train instead. This is much more expensive and much slower.

Experts say this is having a serious impact on the economy. Everything from gasoline to groceries could cost more because it is getting harder to move things around.

If the rain doesn't come soon, it could cause a chain reaction of problems for people across the continent. For now, the rivers remain at dangerous levels, and experts are worried that the worst is yet to come.
