A large group of people tried to cross the border into Ceuta this week. Ceuta is a small piece of land owned by Spain, but it is located on the coast of North Africa.
Moroccan security forces were waiting for them. They stopped nearly 300 people from crossing over. It was a very busy time at the border as officials worked to keep the area secure.
After the attempt to cross was stopped, many of the migrants stayed nearby. Hundreds of them held a protest in the city. They were asking for asylum. This is a formal request to stay in the country for protection because it is not safe for them to go back home.
This is not the first time this has happened. There have been several attempts by groups of migrants to enter Ceuta recently. Officials say they were prepared for these movements because they have seen many people gathering in the area.
Right now, the situation at the border is being watched closely by both Moroccan and Spanish authorities. The migrants who were stopped are being processed by security forces.
