Five prison officials in Indonesia have been suspended from their jobs. This comes after investigators found that some inmates were living in high-end, luxury rooms instead of regular jail cells.
Reports show the rooms at the prison in Cibinong included comforts like air conditioning, double beds, and large flat-screen televisions. These items are strictly against prison rules, which are meant to provide basic living conditions rather than comforts like a private home or hotel.
Officials were caught off guard by the discovery of 13 special, high-end buildings inside the prison walls. The government has now stepped in to investigate how these inmates were able to build or access such luxury inside the facility.
This scandal has caused a lot of anger, as it suggests some prisoners were getting special treatment that others could not afford or earn. The officials in charge of that prison area are now under review. The government says it is working to tear down these unauthorized buildings and fix the system to make sure all inmates follow the same rules.
