Kenya is on high alert after its first case of Ebola was confirmed. A man recently died from the virus after traveling through three different countries without being caught by border health checks.
Now, officials are racing to find anyone who was near him. So far, 10 people have been placed in quarantine to make sure they are not sick. Health teams are also desperately trying to track down 57 other people who might have had contact with the man before he died.
This situation has raised big questions about how someone could travel so far while carrying such a dangerous virus. Even though Kenya had rules in place to stop Ebola from getting in, the virus still slipped through the cracks. Experts say this is a warning that the disease could easily spread across borders if systems aren't working perfectly.
Because of this, the Kenyan government has taken quick steps to try and stop the spread. They have decided to suspend all hotel meetings and conferences for now. These types of gatherings bring many people together in one room, which is exactly how Ebola spreads if someone is sick.
Ebola is a very serious disease. It is often caused by the Bundibugyo virus, which is the type identified in this case in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It spreads through close contact with the bodily fluids of someone who is infected.
For now, the focus remains on finding those 57 missing contacts. Officials are asking the public to stay calm but to be very careful and follow all health warnings.
