Canada is getting a new twenty-dollar bill. The Bank of Canada just showed us what it looks like.
For the first time, this bill will feature a portrait of King Charles III. He is the current King of Canada.
The new bill is vertical, which means it is designed to be held up and down instead of side to side. This is similar to the current twenty-dollar bill that is already in use.
Officials say this update is part of the normal process for changing currency to keep it secure and up to date.
You don’t need to do anything with your current money. The old bills featuring the late Queen Elizabeth II will stay in your wallet and are still worth the same amount. You can keep using them just like you always have.
The new bills will start to appear in circulation over the coming months as they are handed out by banks and stores. It will take some time before you see one in your daily life, but they are coming soon.
