A suspicious drone was spotted flying near a major gas facility off the coast of Romania. Because of the danger, the Romanian military sent jets to deal with the craft.
The military destroyed the drone before it could cause any harm. The facility it was near is called the Neptun Deep gas project. It is an important site for energy production.
Romania's leaders were quick to speak out. The country’s president blamed Russia for the incident. This comes as tensions remain high due to the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.
The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, also spoke about the situation. She warned that there is an 'escalating campaign of threats' happening right now. This means that acts of intimidation are becoming more frequent.
This is not the first time drones have appeared near the border of a NATO country. Because Romania is a member of NATO, the alliance is watching the situation closely to make sure the country stays safe.
Right now, officials are gathering more information to confirm exactly where the drone came from. For now, the area is being monitored by security forces to prevent any more surprises.
