Australia accidentally sent spare parts for F-35 fighter jets to Hong Kong. The F-35 is a very high-tech, advanced warplane used by the U.S. military and its allies.
Australian defense officials confirmed the mistake happened during a shipping error. They quickly made it clear that the parts sent to Hong Kong were not 'sensitive.' This means they didn't include top-secret computer chips or high-tech weapons technology that could put security at risk if they fell into the wrong hands.
Even though the parts weren't secret, the mistake is being taken very seriously. Because the F-35 is such an important piece of military equipment, any loose parts ending up in the wrong country is a big deal.
Officials in both Australia and the United States are now investigating how the parts ended up in Hong Kong. Members of the U.S. Congress are asking questions, and an investigation is underway at Hill Air Force Base in Utah, where the parts were handled.
Everyone involved is working to figure out how the mix-up happened so they can make sure it never happens again.
