Russia blocks movement near Estonian border as tensions rise

New restrictions near the Estonian border and concerns over Russia's war in Ukraine are causing worry in the region.

Russia has started blocking people from moving near its border with Estonia at night. This rule applies to a five-kilometer strip of land along the border line.

Officials in Estonia are watching the situation closely. Margus Tsahkna, Estonia’s foreign minister, says there are no Russian troops gathering near their borders right now. Still, the new movement rules have led to concerns about what Russia might be planning. Some worry this could be related to Russia’s ongoing mobilization efforts for the war in Ukraine.

Foreign Minister Tsahkna also spoke about the war in Ukraine. He believes that Vladimir Putin is trying to use Donald Trump to delay things. He thinks Putin wants to stall for time while the war continues.

For now, the situation at the border remains tense but stable. Estonia says they are keeping a close eye on all activities nearby to ensure the country stays safe.
