Thousands of people gathered in a small Spanish town this week for the world’s biggest food fight. It is called La Tomatina.
For one hour, the streets were turned into a giant, messy playground. People threw ripe tomatoes at each other until everything was covered in red pulp. It is a messy tradition that draws visitors from all over the world to join in on the fun.
Trucks full of tomatoes drove through the crowd to keep the supply going. By the time it was over, the walls, the streets, and the people were completely drenched.
This festival happens every year. It is one of Spain’s most famous events. After the fighting stops, fire trucks come out to spray down the streets and the people with water to clean everything up. It is a loud, chaotic, and very red day for everyone involved.
