Three men in Mexico will spend the rest of their lives in prison. A judge sentenced each of them to more than 158 years for the murder of three surfers.

The victims were two brothers from Australia and their friend from the United States. They disappeared while on a surfing trip in the Baja California region of Mexico in early 2024.

Police found the men's bodies in a deep well. Investigators say the attackers were trying to steal the surfers’ truck. The men killed the surfers when they tried to stop the robbery.

The crime shocked people in Mexico and abroad. It also sparked protests from locals who were worried about violence in their area.

Each of the three men convicted must serve the full time. This sentencing brings a formal end to a case that drew international attention to the dangers surfers sometimes face in remote areas. The judge's decision was intended to show that these kinds of crimes will be met with very harsh punishment.
