US Senate blocks effort to report on West Bank violence
The Senate voted down a measure that would have forced the government to track human rights violations and the deaths of Americans in the West Bank.

The US Senate voted on Wednesday to stop a new measure. This measure would have required the government to report on violence in the West Bank.
Senator Bernie Sanders led the push for this report. He wanted the government to look into reports of human rights violations in the area. The measure also asked for a report on the deaths of American citizens in the region.
The measure was blocked by a large majority of senators. Most Republicans voted against it, and many Democrats did as well. Because of the vote, the government will not be required to produce the report.
Those who supported the measure argued that it is important to hold Israel accountable for actions in the West Bank. They believe the public should know more about what is happening there.
Those who voted against it said the measure would not help the situation. Some senators expressed concern that the report could hurt the relationship between the US and Israel. Others felt that the current approach to the region is already enough.
The vote means the matter is now closed for the time being. The US government will continue its current policies regarding the conflict in the West Bank.
