Elon Musk is fighting to get his satellite internet service, Starlink, into India. But he has run into a major problem: Mukesh Ambani.
Ambani is one of the richest men in India and the head of Reliance Jio, a massive telecom company. Musk says Ambani is trying to block Starlink so he can keep his own hold on the Indian internet market. Musk recently called the push to keep him out a "monopoly"—that means one company having too much power and no real competition.
However, the Indian government disagrees. They say they aren't trying to block anyone. They claim they are just following the rules for how to give out airwave licenses. They argue that everyone should have to follow the same process.
This fight has turned into a big public drama. It’s not just about business anymore; people are starting to take sides. Some Indian celebrities, like actor Kunal Kapoor, have joined the conversation. Kapoor criticized Musk, saying he has a "saviour complex." He suggested that Musk acts like a Western billionaire coming to "save" developing countries, and he argued that this kind of mindset is a form of control.
For now, the launch of Starlink in India remains stalled. Musk and his team want to bring high-speed internet to remote areas via satellites in space, but they have to play by India’s rules first. Ambani’s side is focused on protecting the market they have built.
This clash shows just how hard it is for big tech companies to move into new countries. It is a mix of business, politics, and local pride.
