India’s Top Diplomat Sharply Responds to Pakistani Reporter at UN

India’s top diplomat, S. Jaishankar, made headlines this week at the United Nations. A reporter from Pakistan asked him a question about terrorism. Jaishankar didn't hold back.
He fired back by calling Pakistan a "terrorist country." He told the reporter it was bold of them to ask him about that topic given their own history.
This happened while world leaders were meeting at the UN General Assembly in New York. India has long accused Pakistan of supporting groups that carry out attacks in India. Pakistan denies this.
In his speech and at the press event, Jaishankar slammed Pakistan for lecturing others on human rights and democracy. He called these comments "hypocritical." In other words, he was saying that Pakistan shouldn't talk about rights when they have their own serious problems.
India has made it very clear: they believe terrorism has consequences. They are using the big stage at the United Nations to keep pressure on Pakistan. This exchange shows how tense the relationship remains between the two neighbors.
