Leaders from four countries—Egypt, Sudan, Eritrea, and Somalia—met recently in Egypt. They held a special meeting called the Quadrilateral Consultative Summit.
At the end of the meeting, they signed a paper called the El-Alamein Joint Declaration. This is a promise to work together more closely.
There are three main things you need to know about this meeting:
First, they want to stop other countries from interfering in their business. They used the term "foreign meddling," which just means they don't want outside nations telling them how to run their countries or controlling their local issues.
Second, the timing is important. There is a lot of fighting going on in Ethiopia right now. Because the fighting is getting worse, these leaders are worried about how it might affect the peace and safety of the whole region.
Third, they are looking at the "Red Sea" area. This is a very busy and important part of the world for trade and shipping. By working together, these four countries hope to make the area safer and keep more control over their own borders.
Experts say this is a big move by Egypt. It looks like Egypt is trying to build a stronger circle of friends in East Africa to make sure its own interests are protected.
For now, the four countries have agreed to keep talking and to watch the situation in Ethiopia very carefully.
