A big meeting of world leaders is happening right now, but things are very tense. Leaders from many countries decided to skip the traditional group photo at the G20 summit. This is a big deal because that photo is usually a main part of these meetings.
The reason they skipped it is simple: they do not want to be seen standing next to Russian officials. Because Russia is at war with Ukraine, many other countries are upset. They feel that being in a picture with Russia makes it look like everything is normal, and they don't want to send that message.
Kaja Kallas, who speaks for the European Union, said there were "a lot of lies" coming from Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. She also warned that letting Vladimir Putin or his team feel welcome at big meetings like this could make it seem like people are okay with war crimes. She thinks leaders should stand firm.
The U.S. is also taking a hard stance. They actually canceled a planned photo session in Atlanta because they didn't want to have to include the Russian representative. New Secretary of State Marco Rubio is part of these talks, and the U.S. is showing that they aren't willing to pretend that business with Russia is normal while the war continues.
In short, the room is divided. By skipping the photo, these leaders are trying to show they aren't okay with what Russia is doing. They want the world to know that Russia's actions have consequences, even at fancy international meetings.
