The mayor of Taipei had a rough time at the city's Pride parade this weekend. People at the event were very upset with him. They shouted and booed as he walked by.
Why were they so mad? It started because of a police raid on a gay bar in the city. The people at the Pride parade felt the police were being unfair and targeting the LGBTQ+ community.
Because the mayor is the leader of the city, the protesters blamed him for what happened at the bar. They used the Pride parade as a chance to show him they were unhappy with his leadership and the way the police are acting.
Pride parades are meant to be a time for celebration and for people to feel safe. For many people at the event, the mayor’s presence felt wrong after the recent raid. He faced a lot of noise and anger from the crowd while trying to participate in the day’s activities.
