ATHENS — Greek authorities have launched an urgent investigation into the death of a 38-year-old British woman whose body was discovered inside a suitcase in Athens.

Police are currently treating the case as a suspected homicide and are working to track down a group of individuals identified as the victim’s "American friends." Investigators believe these individuals were scheduled to meet the woman shortly before her death.

Evidence in the case has taken a troubling turn, with reports from The Telegraph indicating that a text message was sent from the victim's own mobile phone after her death, leading police to suspect that her killer may still be in possession of the device.

"We are exploring all possibilities, including the theory of foul play," a police spokesperson noted. The authorities are currently struggling to trace the identities and whereabouts of the American contacts, who remain the primary focus of the investigation.

As the forensic examination continues, the Greek police are working in coordination with international counterparts to piece together the victim's final movements. No arrests have been made at this time, and the investigation remains active as officials analyze surveillance footage and digital footprints.
