One American survivor shared a terrifying story of how the water came rushing at them. She said the flood stood in front of them 'like a serpent,' moving fast and destroying everything in its path.

Experts say part of the problem is that people are building more houses and roads in the Himalayan mountains than ever before. While the mountains are naturally unpredictable, this new construction is making the damage from these floods much worse.
