Iran and Oman Work on Deal for Hormuz Strait Shipping

Iran says they are close to an agreement with Oman to manage ships in the Strait of Hormuz, a key waterway for global oil.

Iran and Oman are moving toward a new deal to manage the Strait of Hormuz. This is a very narrow but very important stretch of water. It is where much of the world's oil travels by ship.

Talks are happening while tensions in the region stay high. Recently, there have been several attacks on ships in the area. Iran claims they have reached a basic agreement with Oman on how to handle shipping routes through the Strait.

Meanwhile, Iran is also pushing back against the United States. Iranian officials recently said that Donald Trump made a "miscalculation" regarding how they handle the Strait.

Some experts suggest that Gulf states are starting to accept a "new normal." They feel that Iran is now firmly in control of the Strait of Hormuz and its traffic.

While these talks happen in the water, the region remains dangerous. In other news, fighting continues elsewhere, with reports of 11 people killed in Lebanon during recent Israeli strikes.

For now, the world is watching to see if this deal with Oman actually makes the shipping lanes safer or if the control Iran has over the water will lead to more trouble.
