King Charles is heading to the Caribbean soon. Buckingham Palace says he wants to talk about Britain’s history, including the days of slavery. They describe this time as the “darkest days of our past.”

Even though he plans to talk about it, the King will not offer a formal apology for the slave trade.

The Palace says the King will not "shy away" from the subject. This means he will face the hard parts of history head-on rather than ignoring them.

Many people in the Caribbean have asked for an apology for Britain’s role in slavery for a long time. While the King’s trip will acknowledge the pain caused by the past, the royal family is not planning to say they are sorry in an official way.

This trip is a big moment for the King as he works on how the British monarchy connects with countries that were once part of the British Empire.
