Navi Pillay has won the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize. She is a well-known lawyer from South Africa who has spent years fighting for human rights. She also used to be a judge for the International Criminal Court and a top official at the United Nations.
The Nobel Committee chose her for her lifelong work protecting people and standing up for justice around the world.
Not everyone is happy about the news, though. The Israeli government has spoken out against the decision. They do not agree with the committee giving her this award.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump criticized the Nobel committee for their choice. He expressed his disapproval on social media shortly after the announcement.
Despite the pushback from some leaders, many human rights groups are celebrating the win. Pillay’s career has focused on defending victims of abuse and making sure the law is applied fairly to everyone, no matter who they are.
