There is a lot of talk right now about North Korea’s role in the war between Russia and Ukraine. Here is what you need to know.
First, there is the question of North Korea’s new missile. The country says this missile can carry a very heavy, 2.5-ton warhead and travel 900 kilometers (about 560 miles). However, experts are skeptical. They say the math does not quite add up. It is unlikely that a missile could carry that much weight and travel that far at the same time.
At the same time, the situation on the ground in Ukraine is changing. Ukraine claims that North Korea is now sending more than just weapons; they are reportedly sending people to help operate drones for Russia.
This has led to a lot of questions about how much North Korea is helping Russia fight. While Ukraine says this is happening, North Korea’s leader Kim Jong Un’s sister, Kim Yo Jong, denied the claims. She said the reports about extra troops being sent over are not true.
Meanwhile, the Institute for the Study of War is keeping a close eye on the fighting. They are reporting that the conflict remains intense, and experts at other news outlets like CNN and DW are trying to figure out exactly how these new ties between Russia and North Korea will change the war.
In short, there is a lot of back-and-forth about what North Korea is really doing. We are watching to see if more evidence comes out about the drones and the troops.
