Russia launched a massive wave of drone attacks against Ukraine overnight. The strikes focused heavily on energy plants. Power has been disrupted in the capital city of Kyiv and the Zhytomyr region.

Experts say Russia knows exactly where to hit to cause the most trouble for Ukraine's electricity supply. In some cases, electricity for Kyiv is now traveling 200 miles just to reach the city, making the system very fragile.

This follows a recent attack on a small village, where the death toll has now climbed to 40 people.

Ukraine fought back, also launching hundreds of its own drones at Russia. The two sides are trading drone strikes back and forth as the war continues to focus on breaking down basic needs like heat and light.

Military analysts from the Institute for the Study of War report that Russia is keeping up a steady pace of attacks as part of a larger, ongoing campaign to wear down Ukraine’s defenses.
