A 21-year-old student from Spain has been stabbed to death in Mexico. She was an exchange student studying at the University of Morelos. Local police have arrested a man and are charging him with femicide, which is the term for the killing of a woman because of her gender.
The girl’s father has traveled to Mexico to deal with the tragedy and meet with officials.
This is not an isolated event. This death marks the fourth time a female student from the University of Morelos has been murdered in just the last seven months. The recurring violence has left the community in shock and raising serious questions about the safety of students at the university.
