Thousands Flee Yemen as War Gets Worse
Fighting between Houthi rebels and government forces is forcing families to leave their homes, with many trying to reach Djibouti by crossing the sea.

The fighting in Yemen is getting much worse. Because of this, more than 100,000 people have had to leave their homes to stay safe.
This new wave of violence comes as Houthi rebels and government forces, who are backed by Saudi Arabia, continue to clash. The situation has become so dangerous that many people are choosing to risk their lives at sea to get away.
Some are traveling across the Red Sea in small boats, hoping to reach Djibouti. Djibouti is a small country on the other side of the water. Reports from aid groups like the International Organization for Migration show that the number of displaced people—people forced to leave their homes—is nearing 130,000.
Families are arriving at the coast terrified. Many have nothing with them. They are running from the gunfire and the destruction that has taken over their towns.
This latest increase in fighting is drawing more attention to the long-standing war in Yemen, which has already caused a major humanitarian crisis. Aid workers are now scrambling to help those who are arriving at the coast, but resources are limited and the number of people in need keeps growing every day.
