Ukraine is changing how it fights the war. Lately, they have started sending long-range drones to hit targets deep inside Russia.
One of their new goals is Russia's space program. By hitting these sites, Ukraine hopes to stop Russia from using its space technology to help with military operations. Many of these Russian satellites and space tools are used to track movements on the battlefield, so this is a strategic move to blind Russia’s military eyes.
In the Samara region, drones also hit industrial areas. Local officials say the attacks damaged civilian buildings and facilities. Reports from news agencies in Russia confirm that an oil refinery in the town of Novokuibyshevsk was hit.
This is a major shift in the war. Instead of only fighting on the front lines, Ukraine is now taking the fight to places that support Russia’s war machine from far away. Officials say these attacks are meant to hurt Russia's ability to keep the war going by cutting off the resources they need to win.
Russian officials have acknowledged the strikes, but there is no word yet on how much the damage will affect their long-term space or energy goals.
