Chaos hit the skies over Moscow today. All four of the city’s major airports were forced to close. Officials say the shutdown happened because of unidentified drones and balloons spotted in the air.
This is a big deal because it shows how vulnerable the Russian capital has become. These incidents come at a time when Ukraine is trying to stop new, jet-powered drones that have been attacking their own cities. Volunteers in Ukraine are working around the clock, acting as eyes and ears on the ground to track these incoming threats.
While Moscow dealt with the sudden grounding of planes, the situation highlights a larger, dangerous game of cat and mouse. Both sides are racing to build and use better drone technology. Russia continues to push its new jet drones against Ukraine, while Ukraine is finding ways to hit back at targets deep inside Russian territory.
It is not yet clear exactly who launched these specific drones and balloons, or what their goal was. However, the move shows that nowhere is completely safe, even near the Russian capital. As the war drags on, these aerial battles are becoming a regular and very dangerous part of daily life.
