At least 48 people dead in Nigeria after drinking toxic alcohol

A tragedy has hit Nigeria. At least 48 people have died after drinking alcohol that was likely poisonous. Officials say the drinks were suspected to contain methanol.

Methanol is a type of alcohol that is very dangerous. It is not meant for people to drink. When someone drinks it, it can be fatal.

Health workers are working to figure out exactly what happened. They are checking the drinks to be sure. People in the area are being warned not to drink alcohol from unknown sources.

This is a developing situation. Local leaders are asking everyone to be very careful about what they consume. Investigations are ongoing to find out where the bad drinks came from.
