There is a lot of anger in Nigeria right now. People are protesting in the streets after a tragedy happened inside a government holding facility.
Reports say that dozens of miners who were arrested for illegal mining have died while in custody. The exact number of people who died is still being clarified by different news outlets, with reports ranging from 33 to 37.
Survivors are speaking out about what happened. They described a terrifying scene inside a police cell where about 66 people were locked up together. They said the room was so crowded that it was impossible to move, and they struggled to breathe. The conditions were so tight and poorly ventilated that it led to the deaths of those trapped inside.
Because of the outcry from the public, officials have had to impose a curfew in the city to try and keep things under control.
