A wave of protests has hit Bangladesh, leading to the closure of hundreds of clothing factories. Workers are marching in the streets to demand better pay.
In areas like Ashulia and Savar, at least 264 factories have shut their doors for now. The situation has become intense, with reports of clashes between protesters and police.
The workers are unhappy with their current wages and are calling for an increase to cover the rising cost of living. Because so many factories are closed, the production of clothes for big global brands has slowed down significantly.
In response to the unrest, the government has set up a new wage board. This is a special group of people tasked with looking at the current pay rates and deciding if they should be raised.
However, the tension remains high. The protests have now entered their third day, and it is unclear when the factories will be able to reopen safely. For now, thousands of workers remain off the job, and streets in industrial areas stay filled with people calling for change.
