China tells Europe: Let’s stop the trade fight
Top Chinese officials are asking Europe to avoid a trade war, hoping to talk through their problems instead of using tariffs.

China and Europe are currently at odds over trade, and Beijing is trying to calm things down. China's top leaders have reached out to European officials, urging them to avoid a full-blown trade war.
Instead of putting taxes or penalties on each other's goods, China says it wants to resolve these issues through conversation. They believe both sides should focus on better understanding each other rather than fighting.
There is a lot of pressure behind these talks. Reports suggest that China is even asking Germany for help. They want to smooth things over with the European Union before a big meeting between Chinese leader Xi Jinping and U.S. President-elect Donald Trump.
At the same time, the relationship is getting more complicated. Some reports indicate that Beijing is also pulling Germany into discussions about Taiwan, which adds another layer of tension to the mix.
For now, the main message from China is clear: they want to keep the lines of communication open. They hope that by talking things out, both regions can avoid damaging economic moves that would hurt businesses and workers on both sides.
