China has just finished a huge project that could change how goods move around the world. It is called the Pinglu Canal, and it cost $10.8 billion to build.

Think of this canal as a giant shortcut. It connects inland areas of China directly to the sea. Before this, ships had to take much longer routes to move cargo. By cutting through the land, this new water path makes it much easier to trade with countries in Southeast Asia, known as ASEAN.

This project is a big deal for the global supply chain. A supply chain is just the path that things take from where they are made to the store shelves where you buy them. When these paths get shorter and faster, it usually means products can be shipped for less money.

Everything is moving along quickly. A special ship, called a command vessel, has already been delivered to help manage the canal. Officials have even said the project has passed its final inspection, which means it is officially ready to go.

This is part of a larger plan to link up different ways of moving cargo, like trains and boats, across the region. Leaders believe this will make trade much busier and help businesses grow. With the canal finished, we should see goods moving back and forth across the region much more efficiently very soon.
