EU Court Rejects Hungary’s Attempt to Block Russian Funds for Ukraine
Hungary tried to stop the EU from using frozen Russian money to help Ukraine, but the top court said no.

A high-level European court has ruled against Hungary today. This means Hungary cannot block the European Union from using money taken from Russia to help Ukraine.
When the war started, many countries froze money belonging to the Russian government. That money has been sitting in bank accounts, earning interest. The EU decided that this extra interest money should go to Ukraine to help them rebuild and defend themselves.
Hungary did not want this to happen. They took the case to court to try to stop the plan. However, the judges decided that the EU is allowed to move forward with sending the money to Ukraine.
This decision comes as other groups are also putting on pressure. Members of the European Parliament and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) are pushing for even more. They want to find ways to use the full 200 billion euros in frozen Russian assets to help Ukraine, not just the interest.
For now, the court’s decision is a win for the EU’s plan. It means the money earned from Russia’s frozen assets will continue to go toward supporting Ukraine’s fight.
