A man who used to run the teleprompters at the White House is in big trouble. He has been ordered to pay $172,000 in fines.
Here is what happened: The man had access to private information about upcoming speeches by Donald Trump. Because he worked closely with the President, he knew things before the public did.
He used that information to place bets on a website called Kalshi. He was betting on how certain speeches would go and the results of political events. Using private work information to make money on bets is against the law. It is called "insider trading."
Basically, he had an unfair advantage. He knew how things would turn out because of his job, and he used that to try to make extra cash. Now, the government has caught up with him. He has to give back the money he made and pay a large fine as punishment.
This is a lesson that even if you have a unique job, you cannot use your private access to cheat the system for personal gain.
