Japanese lawmakers travel to China to fix strained relationship

A group of lawmakers from Japan has traveled to Beijing this week. They are meeting with Chinese officials to try and fix the relationship between the two countries.
Right now, things between Japan and China are a bit frosty. The tension comes after a recent comment by a high-ranking Japanese politician named Sanae Takaichi, who spoke about Taiwan. China considers Taiwan to be part of its own country, so when Japanese leaders talk about it in ways that support Taiwan's independence, it makes Beijing very angry.
Because of that and other disagreements, the two neighbors have not been getting along. These lawmakers hope that by sitting down and talking face-to-face, they can start to make things better.
Chinese officials have said they are open to hearing these calls for better relations. They have urged Japan's leaders to work harder on fixing the friendship between the two nations.
This trip is seen as an important step. Even if they don't solve every problem in one meeting, talking is better than not talking at all. Both sides are looking for a way to move forward and lower the tension that has been building up lately.
